ICI Education & Training Mission Statement

The ICI Preceptorship Program Mission is to measurably contribute to cancer patients’ safety and other health outcomes and to support practice improvement by providing CME/CPD activities that enhance the ability of physicians and other health-care team members to deliver quality and optimal healthcare services.

Purpose

The purpose of the ICI Preceptorship Program is to develop educational activities that clearly link the needs of the learner/participants with the planning process, format and delivery of each activity, resulting in high quality continuing medical education/continued Professional development opportunities that will increase the knowledge, competence and performance of healthcare providers.

Type of Activities Provided by ICI

In order to accomplish our educational goals, ICI CME uses a range of activity formats based on the content and desired results of the activity. Current offerings include live and video conference activities, live regularly scheduled series, internet CME activities, enduring materials, and hands-on skills workshops. ICI also jointly sponsors activities with regional specialty societies, non-profit educational organizations, and government agencies when mutually desired goals and outcomes are best achieved by such relationships.

Expected Outcomes of the Preceptorship Program

It is expected that after this course the participants will:

  1. Apply knowledge gained in this course in their day to day implementation of project activities
  2. Prepare a project plan putting into consideration components of the project cycle
  3. Implement knowledge on project management, its processes, lifecycle, concepts, tools and techniques for the achievement of project success
  4. Interact with team and stakeholders in a professional manner, respecting differences, to ensure a collaborative project environment.
  5. Incorporate Monitoring and Evaluation concepts in project management for evidence-based learning and decision making

Target Audience

The primary target audience for this course comprises the clinical and non-clinical staff members from ICI, partner counties, and countries. These include but are not limited to Directors, General Managers, physicians, palliative care specialists, medical officers, oncology clinical officers, oncology nurses, Oncology pharmacists, data managers, IT officers, Program Managers, Program coordinators, M&E Officers, Palliative care nurses, county partner liaison coordinators, and project administrators.

Statement of Need

This course is important since it will facilitate a systematic approach to managing projects based on best practices on project management and M&E, leading to the efficient and effective delivery of service in partnership with counties and countries in Sub Saharan Africa.

Learning objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the fundamentals of project management as it applies to cancer care projects.
  2. Understand the components of the project life cycle from project identification to successful project closeout
  3. Conceptualize the principles of project management within the healthcare sector
  4. Define various monitoring and evaluation terms and concepts and how they apply within the project life cycle
  5. Understand how to utilize data collected for evidence-based learning and decision – making
